Friday Amber Alert Deactivated; Suspect In Custody

Friday, May 19, 2017 | Sacramento, CA

UPDATE 9:38 p.m.: (AP) - Police say a 1-year-old boy taken from San Francisco by his possibly suicidal father has been found in Los Angeles.

LA police say the pair was found in the Palms section of the city Friday night.

The father, Jason Lam, is in custody and his car has been impounded. The boy, Makai Bangoura, is safe.

The boy's mother reported that his father had not returned him Thursday, and on Friday an Amber Alert was issued that has now been called off.

After saying the father and son could be anywhere, authorities a few hours later said they might be heading south on Interstate 5 toward Southern California.

Original Post: An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing one-year-old out of San Francisco. The suspect is Jason Lam, the child's father. He's described as a 30-year-old Asian man about five-feet-three inches tall. The child is a light skinned black male who's three feet tall and 40 pounds, with brown curly hair and brown eyes.

The suspect is believed to be driving a 2000 tan Toyota Corolla with California licence plate number 5SEY238.

Authorities say Lam may be suicidal and should not be approached without law enforcement coordination.

Though the Amber Alert was issued today, the child has been missing since May 12.
