(AP) - Officials say a mosque has been damaged in an apparent hate crime, the second such incident in Northern California in less than two weeks.
KCRA-TV reported Wednesday that Roseville's Tarbiya Institute was spray-painted with a dozen obscene and racist slurs, including "Muslim out."
The institute northeast of Sacramento has been open six months and serves about 300 members.
Roseville police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther says the vandalism is being investigated as a hate crime.
Last month, video surveillance showed a woman shattering windows and placing strips of uncooked bacon on a door handle of a mosque in Davis, west of Sacramento. Davis police call that a hate crime because Muslims are prohibited from eating pork products.
In Quebec, Canada, six men were shot to death in a weekend attack.
