Update 9 p.m.: According to SMUD, crews have restored power to all customers in Elk Grove. An outage occurred after a car crashed into a utility pole Tuesday afternoon.
Update 6:52 p.m.: Approximately 5,000 customers are still without power after a car crash resulted in an outage in Elk Grove, according to SMUD.
Update 6:04 p.m.: SMUD has restored power to the majority of those impacted by the outage.
Original: A car crashed into a power pole on Elk Grove Blvd. this afternoon leaving thousands without power.
SMUD tweeted they are working to restore power to about 17,000 customers after the accident. There is no current estimate for when service will be restored. You can monitor outages on SMUD's website.
Elk Grove Police are advising drivers avoid the area which is at the 8600 block of Elk Grove Blvd.
