A new study shows Stockton, Modesto, and Tracy are among the cheapest places to live in California.
Thomas Pogue is Associate Director of the Center for Business and Policy Research at University of the Pacific.
Pogue says about 60 factors from groceries to housing are added into the equation.
He says while the cost of living in cities in the Central Valley is lower in comparison to other California cities, it is higher than the national average.
"California is expensive. A community like Tracy was 24 percent more expensive than the nation as a whole. Modesto was about 9 percent more expensive than the nation as a whole,” says Pogue. "But they are a lot lower than an area like San Francisco which was 76 percent more expensive as the nation as a whole."
The report shows that a person moving from Stockton to Oakland would see after-tax expenses jump 31 percent.
