A Modesto criminal-defense attorney, and three California Highway Patrol officers are among nine people arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.
The Modesto Bee reports attorney Frank Carson has been arrested in the death of Korey Kauffman, who was found dead in Mariposa County a year-and-a-half after he disappeared.
The 334-page arrest affidavit describes Carson as "vengeful property owner" who was trying to send a message to people who were allegedly steal scrap metal and antiques from his property in Turlock.
Carson, who ran for Stanislaus County District Attorney last year, is described as the "ringleader" of the conspiracy. His wife has also been arrested.
