John Shirey will remain the City Manager for the city of Sacramento - at least through November of next year.
The Sacramento City Council voted to extend Shirey's contract at Tuesday night's meeting. Mayor Kevin Johnson was the only person who spoke on the agenda item.
"We just want to thank you for your leadership, for what you've done in terms of getting our house in order, in terms of the fiscal discipline that you've brought, creating opportunities to grow revenue, having a team of people that believe in the vision of Sacramento. I'd be honored to move this item."
Shirey was hired nearly four years ago. He declined a three-year extension last year while waiting to see if voters would approve a "strong mayor" form of government.
Voters rejected the idea.
The council vote was eight-to-zero with Councilman Allen Warren abstaining.
