The Sacramento City Council will decide tomorrow whether to sell eleven acres of city land -that includes the Dan McAuliffe Memorial Ballparks.
Sacramento State University says it wants to buy the land at the corner of College Town Drive and State University Drive for $2.2 million and build student housing.
That would force the Men's Senior Baseball League and East Sacramento Babe Ruth Little League to move.
Jim Combs is the Director of Parks and Recreation for the city. He says the leagues would move five miles away to Army Depot Park. It's a 20-acre site at the corner of Elder Creek and Florin Perkins Road.
"Sac State as part of the arrangement has agreed to build them two new class-AAA fields over there. They have to build those fields, relocate them before they can do anything on that property and build housing."
If council approves, Sac State would take over the lease from the baseball leagues until the new fields are built and ground is broken on a new dorm.
The McAuliffe fields were built 20 years ago -primarily with private donations. The city says the new fields could cost $5 million.
