About 300 earthquake experts from around the world have a lot to talk about and this year, not just earthquakes. They are talking about hazards like tornadoes, floods and hurricanes that exert similar forces on structures.

One of the highlights of Quake Summit 2013 is a tour of what will be the largest seismic lab in the world which is currently being built at UNR. Director of the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation Dr. Julio Ramirez says everyone is excited.

“Oh, you can test bridges, tall buildings, it is amazing and the full scale test on an earthquake simulator or shake table is the ultimate verification of concept, design procedure and new construction technique” -- Dr. Julio Ramirez, UNR Director of the Newtwork for Earthquake Engineering Simulation.

A smaller facility has recently been built in China for the first time and a delegation representing 16 Chinese institutions is also at UNR learning how to use the simulator.
