CapRadio Launches Mid Pacific Podcast

Sarah Mizes-Tan will host Mid Pacific, a new limited-series podcast that explores Asian American identity

Marissa Espiritu / CapRadio

Sacramento, CA – March 28, 2023: CapRadio is excited to announce Mid Pacific, a new six-episode limited-series podcast hosted by Sarah Mizes-Tan. The first episode will drop on March 30, with new episodes released weekly each Thursday. The podcast video trailer is available now.

In this new podcast, Mizes-Tan explores what it means to be Asian American and the feeling of being caught in the middle of two worlds. Through personal stories and commentary from people familiar with the API immigrant experience, Mid Pacific unwraps the history of the term, what it signifies today and how Asian Americans can define their own experience. Listeners will hear a variety of voices from the vast diaspora that illuminate how food, relationships, politics and more influence the idea of Asian American identity.

“Being Asian American can be a complicated space to inhabit, and I’ve often wondered what the term really means — for a lot of us, it can be too vague,” said Mizes-Tan. “But I’m so excited to be able to dive into some of the threads that connect all of us and talk about topics that I think will ring true for many fellow Asian Americans.”

A Murrow-award winning journalist who covers race and equity issues in the Sacramento region, Mizes-Tan’s own lived experience inspired the creation of Mid Pacific. Drawing on the questions and struggles she — and many of her friends, family and colleagues — experienced with identity, Mizes-Tan set out to discover how others navigate the challenges of living in a liminal space and what unites everyone in this broad category known as Asian American.

“Sarah’s vulnerability as a host shines through in this podcast,” said Sally Schilling, director of podcasts at CapRadio. “In a world that often tries to simplify and put arbitrary labels on everyone, she has created a space where people can be open about the complicated dynamics of family, culture and race.”

Mid Pacific will debut as an NPR Network podcast, which leverages NPR and a collective of independent public media organizations across the nation to connect with millions of people. All episodes will be accessible in the NPR One app and wherever podcasts are available.

Catch the first episode of Mid Pacific on Thursday, March 30. A press kit is available here.
