March 1, 2024
As CapRadio’s new interim president and general manager, I have a deep sense of honor and responsibility being in the position to lead our organization and fulfill our public service mission.
Since the California State University (CSU) audit release on Sept. 27, CapRadio has been working diligently to reach compliance with all recommendations and stabilize our core business operations and finances. I want to express my gratitude to our former interim president and general manager Tom Karlo, the CapRadio staff and President Wood and Sacramento State — their dedication to securing the future of public media in the region has been crucial to our recovery efforts.
CapRadio is a purpose-bound, mission-driven organization. We exist to create more informed, involved and educated communities. This clarity and focus is our driving force as we place a renewed emphasis on our public service mission. Moving forward, we are prioritizing efforts to improve and expand important local services we deliver to our audiences, including:
- Timely on-air news content and local reporting;
- State government reporting to serve California communities;
- Coverage of local arts and culture community;
- Classical music and jazz broadcasting services; and
- Our SacramenKnow newsletter offering (sign up here).
2024 is a critical year for CapRadio. We are a leaner, more focused organization that is operating with great resolve to continue serving our community as a trusted and indispensable resource. And with the ongoing support of our community, we will continue to earn back your trust and serve you better.
While our finances and operations are in a much better position than six months ago, there is more for us to address. But we are a different organization now. With a new board of directors and senior leadership team, we are committed to building a reliable, transparent and sustainable organization.
As we work toward achieving a brighter future, there are still questions about the past. CapRadio and Sacramento State commissioned a forensic examination to determine the origins and causes of our financial problems. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be made available to you when it is complete.
Thank you for believing in CapRadio and supporting the future of public media in our region. With nearly 70% of our funding coming from people like you, our community has been instrumental in helping us navigate this challenging financial situation. I look forward to serving you as CapRadio’s new interim president and general manager.
