The Sacramento City Council has ordered city staff to create a plan to provide bathroom access for the homeless.
Councilman Jeff Harris says he would like a cost estimate of providing attendants at bathrooms in existing buildings, like libraries.
"Look at the central library, to let us go ahead and see if we can finalize a deal," says Harris. "We have two specific areas in mind in the River District that would serve the very dire need that we have there right now."
The City's plan would also include the availability of a portable facility.
The city's "Pit Stop" portable bathroom program ended December 31st.
Harris says homeless used the portable restroom 20,000 times during a six-month trial run.
He also defended the program going $80,000 over its $100,000 budget, saying it provides value to the community.
