4:00 p.m. UPDATE: The cause of the Soberanes fire was determined to be an abandoned campfire.
Higher humidity and lower temperatures Monday helped firefighters battle the destructive Soberanes Fire in Monterey County.
The wildfire has scorched 43,400 acres near the scenic Big Sur coast, destroyed 57 homes and is threatening 2,000 more structures. It's 18 percent contained.
Meanwhile in Fresno County, firefighters faced blistering heat as they worked to contain a blaze near the small town of Prather that forced hundreds of evacuations. Calfire says the Goose Fire has damaged three homes just outside the Sierra National Forest.
The fire started Saturday and has grown to 2,000 acres.
