EDD To Be Audited Bob Moffitt Wednesday, March 12, 2014 | Sacramento, CA The State Auditor will try to determine why more than half the people who appealed denials of unemployment claims won their appeals.Democratic Assemblymember Henry T. Perea says last year, at least 125,000 people were improperly denied unemployment insurance payments."There are a whole host of issues that affect people in their day-to-day lives all because of a process that's set up that doesn't allow them to receive their benefits early on." Perea says a person has to wait six months while appealing a denial before the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. The legislative committee made the audit a priority. It likely will be one of the first audits undertaken this year.EDD released a statement saying it "understands the reason for this audit, and is supportive of finding ways to avoid any unnecessary appeals."
