As of Oct. 25, we will no longer be updating this page daily as most major fires have been 100% contained. We will restart this page if fire activity resumes this season.

To get updates on your phone, including push notifications of major announcements, download our mobile app for iOS or Android.

Updated 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 25

The Latest: Wildfire survivors in Northern California have more time to apply for federal assistance.

FEMA originallly had a deadline of Oct. 25 for those impacted by wildfires in 20201 to apply for assistance. That deadline has been extended until Nov. 8. The extension applies to homeowners and renters in Lassen, Plumas, Nevada, Placer, Tehama and Trinity counties.

There are multiple ways to apply.

  • Online at disasterassistance.gov
  • Download the FEMA Mobile App for smartphones.
  • Call 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585) from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. PT, seven days a week

More information on the process is available here.

The Dixie Fire has reached 100% containment.

#DixieFire above the Cresta Dam, Feather River Canyon in Butte, Plumas, Lassen, Shasta, & Tehama Counties remains 963,309 acres and 100% contained. Lead agencies: @LassenNF

— CAL FIRE (@CAL_FIRE) October 25, 2021

The Caldor Fire closure area in the Eldorado National Forest was reduced Oct. 15 due to increased containment, moderated weather, repaired areas and hazardous tree removal. Desolation Wilderness, areas north of Highway 50 and west of the closure area and areas on the south side of Highway 88 are open with the smaller fire closure area, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Small areas around Wrights Lake and Thunder Mountain remain closed. Winter recreation sites within the closure area, including Sierra at Tahoe, Adventure Mountain and Sno-Parks, will be assessed and reopened when safe.

Check airnow.gov for the latest air quality forecast in your area.

This post will be updated with the latest information on these fires when it is made available. Sign up for emergency alerts in your county to be notified of evacuation warnings and orders.
