Sacramento and West Sacramento are a step closer to a streetcar line that would connect the two cities.
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments, or SACOG, has approved five million dollars to help fund planning for the first phase of the new line.
Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn says the total cost of the project is estimated at 130-to-150-million dollars.
"We also know this going to be a public and private partnership. We heard that very loud and clear from the Secretary of Transportation that they're gonna be looking. If we wanna get federal monies, we're going to have to have private-sector involvement."
The City of Sacramento is expected to offer two million dollars to the planning phase soon.
The preliminary plans call for the trolley to connect the West Sacramento Transit Center with the area around the Sacramento Convention Center.
Proponents of the new Sacramento/West Sacramento line say it could be running by fall of 2017.
