In his new novel "Phantoms," Christian Kiefer takes readers back in time, looking at the past from his character John Frazier’s perspective. Frazier is a Vietnam War veteran who wonders what happened to his neighbor, Ray Takahashi, who was a World War II veteran, when Takahashi came home to discover, as a Japanese-American, he was no longer welcome.

Kirstin Chen, author of "Bury What We Cannot Take," wrote of "Phantoms:" "In confronting the complex legacies of World War II and Vietnam, Kiefer has delivered a haunting story of the past that will make us see the present anew."

You can hear Kiefer discuss the book at the Lincoln Public Library on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
