The Iowa caucuses happen every four years. This form of participatory democracy is unique and not everyone understands it. One thing it is not is a primary. 

Iowa Public Radio has created a podcast called Caucus Land to help explain what it’s all about. Kate Payne is an Iowa City-based reporter for Iowa Public Radio and co-hosts Caucus Land with Clay Masters.
