California continues to battle fires, in both Northern and Southern California. Cal Fire Deputy Director Mike Mohler provides an update on how the agency — and firefighters — are dealing with conditions.

Then, Pascale Fusshoeller and the role the online publication she runs with her partner is connection residents in Sierra Foothill communities during recent (and current) power shutoffs. Her website YubaNet, which she runs with her partner, has been around for twenty years. And, in fact, YubaNet was supposed to have had a 20th anniversary celebration this past weekend, but it was postponed due to the power being out.

In announcing the 20th anniversary celebration, Fusshoeller shared her original invitation in 1999: “Welcome to YubaNet, a brand new website providing free community news, information, resources and opinion for the Gold Country and Northern Sierra Nevada communities. Community, communication and convenience are the three words that describe YubaNet best.”

Fusshoeller will share how the power shut-offs have affected residents and about some of the innovative ways they’ve worked around having no electricity.
