Agriculture remains one of the key economic drivers in California, but diversity in farm ownership is a critical problem. Older white males disproportionately represent the largest number of farms and farm acreage statewide. Future Farmers of America, the largest youth-based organization in the country, is focused on increasing diversity in the profession and attracting young talent.

Breanna Holbert is the first African-American woman to be president of the organization. She’s speaking with the Legislature and Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday about the state of the industry and the role young people of color can play in leading it into the 21st century.
