Met Opera: Die Entführung aus dem Serail

Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio)
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Met Music Director James Levine closes the season of Met Opera radio broadcasts with an opera he has long cherished, Mozart’s delightful comic gem of wily captives in a harem.

Coloratura soprano sensation Albina Shagimuratova stars in the bravura role of Konstanze. Rising tenor Paul Appleby is her lover, Belmonte, soprano Kathleen Kim is her shrewd maid, Blondchen, and bass Hans-Peter König delivers comic gravitas as the overseer of the harem.

The work uses spoken dialogue and separate musical numbers in the form of a Singspiel, or “sung play.”

Conductor:  James Levine

Konstanze: Albina Shagimuratova

Blondchen: Kathleen Kim

Belmonte: Paul Appleby

Pedrillo: Brenton Ryan

Osmin: Hans-Peter König

Pasha: Matthias von Stegmann

Start time: 10:00 AM on Capital Public Radio.
Approximate running time 3 hr 19 min
