Known for his work performing in the trombone sections for Michael Bublé, the Bob Mintzer Big Band, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and others, his own music draws heavily from the worlds of electronica, metal, and progressive rock while remaining firmly rooted in the jazz tradition. 6:30pm. 8/3/2019 Concord Jazz Festival Concord Pavilion 2019 marks the 50th Anniversary Concord Jazz Festival, which began at a city park in 1969 and gave birth to the venerable Concord Jazz label. Featured artists include Dave Koz & Friends Summer Horns, Esperanza Spalding, Chick Corea Spanish Heart Band, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra featuring Patti Austin, Jamison Ross, Carmen Bradford and special guests in a special Celebrating Ella set, Poncho Sanchez & his Latin Jazz Band, and many more. 9/6/2019 Mads Tolling Duo (with Jacob Fischer) Sofia Danish violinist Mads Tolling plays both jazz and classical music. He has performed with jazz greats like Chick Corea and Kenny Barron among many others, toured with Stanley Clarke, and as a member of the classical ensemble the Turtle Island Quartet has won Grammy Awards as well as having recieved commissions to compose for symphony orchestras. Tonight he performs in a duo format with guitarist Jacob Fischer, the longtime guitarist of the late jazz violinist and "Fiddling Viking" Svend Asmussen to whom they pay tribute in this concert. 7pm. 9/11/2019 Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra Harris Center, Folsom Born in Germany to a Chinese-German father and Hungarian mother, Liebert began playing guitar at 11 and later traveled extensively through Europe and Asia absorbing each musical tradition he encountered. In 1989, he settled in Santa Fe NM and founded his band Luna Negra and his signature "Nouveau Flamenco" style with its mix of Spanish, Mexican and World elements, strong melodies tinged with a shade of melancholy and balanced with upbeat rhythms. 8:00pm at the Harris Center, Folsom
