6/1/2018 Music in the Mountains Festival Chorus and Chamber Orchestra Peace Lutheran Church "An American Requiem." Ryan Murray, conductor. The requiem pays homage to the many cultural and ethnic groups that have made positive contributions to America, from Native Americans to immigrants. Texts are drawn from the Old Testament, a poem by Walt Whitman, a Jewish memorial prayer and Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Christian Baldini conducts the Camellia Symphony Orchestra. Also, 12-year old violin prodigy XiaoXiao Lee and Hungarian harpist Bettina Toth. 8/25/2018 Keyboard Conversation with Jeffrey Siegel Harris Center "Commemorating Rachmaninoff and Debussy." 2018 marks the 75th and 100th anniversaries of the deaths of these two beloved composers. Program includes the famous C Sharp Minor Prelude, Clair de lune, and stirring Etudes of both composers. American pianist Jeffrey Siegel offers comments on the work, composer, even the times in which the work was composed, and then gives a virtuosic performance of a piano masterpiece. A lively Q&A concludes the concert. 7:30pm at Harris Center.
