Listen to the one-hour special Friday, September 25th at 12 Noon
It’s been six months since musicians and orchestra lovers have been able to go out and enjoy live music. CapRadio Music is trying to fill that musical void with recorded live performance and special local highlights.
In the summer of 2004, a much-loved local staple, the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, made their very first trip to Europe. Midday Classical Host Jennifer Reason happened to be on the tour as well! She was still a young college student and it was her first trip to Europe. She joined multiple other Sacramento State music students in embarking on this journey with the Choral Society, along with a member of the faculty, Dr. Robin Fisher, who was singing the soprano solo on the tour.

The tour crossed Eastern Europe and made performance stops at world-famous concert venues in Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The choir was joined by a different fantastic European orchestra in each country and had the challenge of performing the entire 2+ hour program after only one — sometimes two — rehearsals with each new ensemble!
Luckily, the performance in Budapest was recorded live by radio Hungary (with a total of 37 microphones in the room!).
In A Tour to Remember, we revisit the live recording of the Budapest concert performed by the SCSO 16 years ago. Joining Jennifer Reason in this special are Dr. Donald Kendrick, conductor and Artistic Director of the SCSO, Jim McCormick, President and CEO of SCSO, Dr. Robin Fisher, soprano soloists, as well as three now-professional musical alumni, as they recall the trip of a lifetime.
We hope you feel uplifted by this special, and may live performance and travel return to us as quickly as possible.
