University of the Pacific President Pamela Eibeck is stepping down.
Eibeck announced Thursday she will retire on July 1 after a decade as the university’s leader.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished to deliver on our promise of a student-centered education and to set Pacific on a strong and sustainable path,” she said in a statement.
In her time as president, she has overseen the integration of the university’s three campuses: McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, the School of Dentistry in San Francisco and UOP’s Stockton campus.
But Eibeck has also come under fire from faculty, facing a no-confidence vote in November. Budget cuts, higher tuition and declining enrollment were seen as major factors.
However, the Board of Regents, including Board Chairman Kevin Huber, supported Eibeck, citing her fundraising efforts and leadership.
“We believe the president has done an outstanding job during her tenure at the university,” Huber said. “She’s had a very forward strategic plan. She’s built strong community support. She’s reached out to the community like no Pacific president ever has through her Beyond the Gate program.”
Eibeck is the university’s 24th president.
