Michael Tubbs was sworn in as Stockton’s new mayor along with three new council members Tuesday night.

“Michael Tubbs was elected as the first African-American mayor of Stockton and the youngest mayor of a city of 100-thousand in American history,” Holman says.

His grandmother administered the oath of office.

Tubbs defeated incumbent Mayor Anthony Silva, who confronted constant controversy and still faces criminal prosecution.

Tubbs says he hopes to set a new course for the city.

“Tonight, really represents an invitation to believe again, and this invitation is not to believe in me but to believe in the collective we, to believe in what we can do collectively to move our great city forward, applause,” Tubbs says.
