The third annual Farm-to-Every Fork dinner takes place Saturday.
When you buy a ticket for the event you're buying two meals. One for yourself and one for a guest who's coped with food insecurity or homelessness.
In 2013 when Sacramento resident Dawnie Andrak sat down to dinner, she was surprised to find herself across the table from a homeless woman she used to pass everyday on the sidewalk outside her downtown office building.
"And I think what it spoke to me was that we're all human. All of us have had different experiences and different life paths. But here we were, eating the same meal, in the same camaraderie around the table and that to me is just a really beautiful experience."
Through their conversation, Andrak learned her dinner mate was now off the streets and clean. The experience made such a big impact on Andrak that she's made Farm To Every Fork a yearly tradition.
