Caltrans To Regrind I-5 Pavement In South Sacramento

(AP) - California officials say they will regrind the pavement of a portion of Interstate 5 in south Sacramento this week or next.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the California Department of Transportation decided to regrind after measuring road surface grip with a skid-test device on Tuesday. Caltrans was concerned after two large big-rig crashes in rainy weather this month.

Spokesman Dennis Keaton said in an email that the agency is still analyzing the data, but early results indicate that roadway friction needs to be improved.

He says crash levels on I-5 are stable, but Caltrans decided to take a closer look after two truck accidents.

Keaton says the agency has also been conducting patchwork repairs on the cracked road surface for some time and will continue to do so.
