Sacramento Police Detectives have arrested two people in connection with a gang-related shooting. One man was killed and six people were injured -including a seven-year-old girl.
Police say Kelly Thomas and Orlando Rinehart approached a toddler's birthday party at Natomas' Peregrine park on May 10 and began shooting.
Officers say some people at the party were armed and returned fire.
Thomas was arrested in New York City on Friday. Rhinehart was arrested in Sacramento today Tuesday.
Police say some of the people at the birthday party and the suspects were involved with gangs and narcotics.
Police Chief Sam Somers says gang-related activity doesn't always stay on the streets.
"Sometimes, that lifestyle will follow you no matter what you're involved in. So, if you're involved in the lifestyle and you get involved in something that may just be ordinary, unfortunately, sometimes it can follow you into that ordinary type of event that you may be in like a birthday party. So it's important you gotta be careful with what choices you make early on in your life."
Detectives say they expect to make at least one and possibly two more arrests in the next few days.
