“War Comes Home: The Legacy”is the name of an exhibit that goes on display Monday at the Cesar Chavez Central Library in Stockton. The exhibit shows the experience of war through letters, photos and videos of those who served from the Civil War to Iraq and Afghanistan.
History books don’t carry the full stories of war. In the “War Comes Home: The Legacy” 12 panels showcase letters, emails, and photos of those who went to war.
Exhibit Director Amy Cohen says the exhibit captures both the thoughts and the emotions of veterans and their families.
“You can really tell who that person is. You get a really great sense of who people are through written correspondence, and I think being able to pair that with a photo, a real individual, really brings it to life,” he says.
Cohen says videos and interviews with veterans also add to the experience with both going to war and adjusting to life after coming home.
The free exhibit will be on display through the end of January.
