Sac State Sustainability Wins Award – Collaboration Work Includes the CapRadio Garden

Sac State Sustainability was selected as the winner for this this year’s California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC), the biggest sustainability conference for higher education in the state of California. Every year they select Best Practice awards for several Sustainability related categories and this year they offered a Social Justice category, which was awarded to Sac State.
Numerous agencies—both on and off campus—worked in concert to help Sac State find sustainable methods by which to feed Sac State students facing any type of food insecurity; the
CapRadio Garden being a direct contributor. Every effort has made a difference and is now recognized on a state-wide platform.
A note from Sac State Recycling & Sustainability Coordinator Joey Martinez below:
Whether it’s the ASI Pop Up Pantry distributing food, the Farm to Fork event spreading the word to the community, or even a Sac State graduate mapping out a Fruit Route on the Sac State campus identifying edible foods; or whether is one of our many partners investing in our students—like Capital Public Radio donating food from their garden or the Community Engagement Center and Soil Born Farms coming together to actually collect food from our campus’ residential neighbors;
Or our faculty teaching the importance of sustainable agriculture; Or even if it’s the many supporting staff coming together to plant fruit trees or working to ensure that water is available to our campus gardens; And especially the many, many Sac State students who have volunteered their time and efforts at places like the Sac State BAC Yard to grow and harvest produce to help feed their fellow students;
Sac State Sustainability is humbled that we get to share your stories and your efforts with so many others.
