CapRadio’s Corporate Supporters Mean Business

“We get support from…”
Our standard preamble read at the beginning of each sponsor message is used to recognize our corporate sponsors and underwriters. Underwriting represents 30% of Capital Public Radio’s total revenue with approximately 400 corporate supporters annually, ranging from small art groups and nonprofits to large businesses and institutions. A common reason that companies choose to support CapRadio via underwriting is to strengthen their connection with our community as well as speak to a highly desirable consumer base.
In addition to the support of our members, Underwriting or Corporate Support is CapRadio’s other major funding stream. The term underwriting is a bit confusing, since it originates from the earliest days of public radio and language used by the Federal Communications Commission. The concept is that programs heard on public radio are made available through underwriting support of corporate sponsors.
Today, underwriting represents 30% of CapRadio’s total revenue. We have about 400 corporate supporters annually ranging from small art groups and nonprofits to large businesses and institutions. Our underwriting team consists of 4 sales professionals, a director of corporate underwriting, traffic manager and sales assistant.
Why do businesses choose to support CapRadio? The CapRadio audience provides unique marketing opportunities to businesses of all types. A common reason that companies choose to support CapRadio via underwriting is to strengthen their connection with our community. Research shows that 71% of listeners hold a more positive opinion of sponsors that support their local public radio stations, and 70% prefer to buy products and services from the companies that support public radio.
We hope you will let all our underwriters know that you have something in common – you both believe in public radio!
