John Forbes Nash, Jr., the Nobel laureate known for his groundbreaking work on game theory, was killed in a N.J. taxi crash on Saturday. He was the subject of the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind.

And now a remembrance. The mathematician and Nobel Laureate John Nash has died. He and his wife, Alicia, were killed in a car crash over the weekend. Nash's struggle with schizophrenia inspired the Oscar-winning film "A Beautiful Mind."

JOHN NASH: I was disturbed in this way for a very long period of time, like 25 years. And the movie gives an insight into how this sort of thing can go.
MONTAGNE: That's John Nash in 2004. He is best known for his work in game theory, considered one of the most influential economic ideas of the 20th century.

NASH: I don't think exactly like a professional economist. I think about economics and economic ideas but somewhat like an outsider.
