Clark Kent is to Superman as The Bronx is to Mariachi El Bronx.
Earlier this month they released its third album, titled Mariachi El Bronx III. Here's a track off the album.
Music blogger, Ivan Fernandez posted on remezcla.com, "The band is on full non-appropriation, gringo mariachi mode to great effect on the album. Singer Matt Caughthran’s lyrics are more personal and less-kitschy though his voice has yet to hit the level of any classic singer (he’s a punk guy after all). It’s clear, however, that he understands his vocal strengths and limitations and works with/around both to great effect."
Caughthran said in a press release he found himself tackling some really dark stuff lyrically on this album.
"There were things that I thought I had already written out of my system. My dad passing away. Some slip-ups that really dragged me down. But I think that with this record I finally got those monkeys off my back."
This album introduces more electric themes than the previous two. Many of the songs still have the classic mariachi sound, while others are most western in nature.
You can catch this Mariachi El Bronx live at Ace Of Spades in Sacramento Friday night.
