Hundreds of people in the community made their way to Sacramento’s Downtown Commons Thursday afternoon for a free community event to see the greatest Super Bowl-winning quarterback of all time — Tom Brady.
Brady’s recently opened store in DOCO, called the CardVault, is for card collectors and sports enthusiasts.
The store, located in front of Insomnia Cookies, is a “first-of-its-kind” store focused on buying, selling, and trading sports cards, trading cards, and collectibles.
Brady arrived sometime after 3 p.m., after Sacramento Kings dancers performed and Kings personality Scott “Fresh” Freshour came out to hype up the crowd.
“This is the best turnout we’ve had yet,” Brady said to a crowd of screaming fans. “It’s unbelievable, and it doesn’t surprise me back home in the state where I grew up, 90 minutes from San Mateo, to see you guys coming out and showing up. I love you guys, thank you so much.”
After his brief speech, Brady signed footballs and threw them to the crowd. He also signed hats and other collector items on his way to his store.
For Nathan Berry, the general manager of Tiger Restaurant and Lounge, this event was an experience that he’ll never forget.

Berry caught one of the signed footballs Brady threw, and he got his The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Performance book signed. He mentioned that his parents got him into football and gave him a Patriots beanie as a child. Ever since then, he has become a die-hard fan.
“My grandpa passed away in 2015-2016 and ever since then, man, I've just been trying to live through the Patriots to connect to him,” Berry said. “So getting two signatures from Tom Brady today, man, is one of the greatest days of my life.”
Debbie Bowers, a New England native and Sacramento resident, came to DOCO with her son to see Brady, whom she credits for bringing many Super Bowl titles to her hometown.

“I was born and raised in New England, and Tom Brady was the savior for us,” Bowers said. “Everybody remembers them winning all the time. But for me growing up, we never won, we lost. And it wasn't until he joined our team that we actually had the memories begin. And it was awesome.”
Matt Terra, a resident of Galt, also stopped by DOCO in his Patriots jersey to see his childhood hero, Brady, at the event. Although he’s not into trading or sports cards, he hopes to get his jersey signed.

“I've been watching Tommy since the beginning,” Terra said. “I've been watching him ever since as a child and all the way up into adulthood. And man, the memories. I just can't. I had to come out and meet him.”
There are now 12 CardVault locations including Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco.
The CardVault in DOCO is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
