A new LEGO franchise will be the latest addition to the Pocket-Greenhaven neighborhoods in South Sacramento.
Bricks & Minifigs, the buy-sell-trade LEGO store, will hold its grand opening on Saturday, July 26. It’s owned by local Pocket-Greenhaven resident Heather Danely.
The new store, located at 7485 Rush River Drive, will offer a wide range of unique LEGO sets, from Star Wars, Bionicle, and Harry Potter, among others.

It is also equipped with an 800-square-foot community room where people can design their own LEGO creations and host events.
General manager of the new Bricks & Minifigs, Dylan Anderson, said one of the most significant factors in their opening a LEGO store is that he has been building with LEGO bricks his whole life.
“This isn’t just a retail store—it’s a space where people of all ages can come together, get creative, and celebrate a love of building,” Anderson said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to become part of the Greenhaven/Pocket neighborhood and can’t wait to welcome everyone in.”
Anderson said he and Danely started building with LEGOs years ago and realized they had too many.
“Being gluttons for punishment, we decided we should do the best we can to share all of the good times, the learning opportunities, and just the general growth of creativity that the Lego system encourages,” he said. “So we started investigating how we wanted to do that, and we came across the good folks of Bricks and Minifigs and saw their interest.”
The Bricks & Minifigs store will be an authorized LEGO retailer, a rarity in Sacramento, according to Anderson.
“That means we have access to everything,” Anderson said. “The new launches that you would normally have to drive out to the Roseville LEGO Store for, we will have the capacity to have those in the store.”
In addition to being a LEGO retailer, the store offers a buy, sell, and trade model for individuals seeking to foster creativity and experiences among families, friends, singles, and everyone else.
“You build a set, you love to display it for a few years, and then you don't have the room anymore, bring it back in, and we can trade you to something that fits whatever's happening,” Anderson said. “Now we can buy it off of you, and that also allows us to try and help out with one of the biggest complaints people have these days, which is how expensive the new sets have gotten.”

Their grand opening on Saturday will feature many activities, including a scavenger hunt, build competitions, live music and more.
“In being community builders, first and foremost, we want to make this a comfortable place to come and play a second home,” Anderson said. “We also have the old school Polaroid style film available to people who want to get an experience with that… the Lego Polaroid set was designed by a UC Davis graduate who is a local resident, of course.”
Nick Michaels and his sister, Niki, who competed in the LEGO Masters season 5 TV show, will also be there on opening day to chat with people about their experiences.
The community room won’t be fully setupwill not be fully operational during the grand opening, according to Anderson, but later on in the summer and fall, they’ll post a full schedule of events for people to participate in.
“One thing we know for sure is we're going to have a bouquet design class led by the owner of Poppy and Pot in the Curtis Park area,” Anderson said.
He also mentioned that the owner of Poppy and Pot is coming to teach the 'hows and whys' of flower pairings.
“There are around 100 species of Lego flowers that have been created in Lego, and we have the capacity to sell them as individual stems instead of the pre-planned bouquets Lego makes,” he said. “She'll teach you to design your own, and then you get to go pick stems off our wall and put together your everlasting.”
The store will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
