After three years of maintenance, Sacramento’s only city-run public pool in the downtown area is open again.
Southside Park Pool shut down after its fiberglass lining began to peel in 2022. Repair crews found leaking iron pipes, corroded copper lines and outdated chemical disposal systems when they started fixing it, which prolonged the repair process. The city says it is now all fixed.

Marnie Leger lives across from the park and said families in the area rely on the pool when temperatures rise.
“They closed so abruptly, but it was at a time when we also knew that they were short on pool staff and the staff here at Southside was immediately put to other pools,” Leger said. “This is the only pool on the grid in the whole of downtown Sacramento.”
She’s been swimming in the pool for years and oftentimes would bring a book and read on a lounge chair between swimming laps.
“It’s like my own private spa right here,” she said.
Sacramento Recreation Manager Sjon Swanson said the facility is now back to running swim lessons and families are coming in again.
“The more pools that you have and access to safe places to swim is an important thing to us,” he said. “So bringing this back to the community is huge.”
Admission to the pool is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for kids under two.
