A woman was arrested Tuesday morning after firing a gun inside an apartment in eastern Sacramento, according to a Sacramento Sheriff's Department press release.
The Sheriff’s Department received a transferred call from the California Highway Patrol just after 8 a.m. from a woman who said she wanted to report a break-in and then hung up. When officers arrived at the apartment complex where the call was made, on the 8800 block of La Riviera Drive, they heard gunshots inside the residence. Deputies evacuated the buildings, and La Riviera Drive at Watt Avenue was closed off as law enforcement responded.
Hostage negotiators were able to make contact with the woman inside, identified as Kathy Miller, and she surrendered peacefully. Miller’s three young children were located inside the apartment. They were uninjured.
No deputies fired their weapons.
Correction: A previous version of this story misstated when the call came in. It has been corrected.
