(AP) - A Northern California prison guard was treated at an outside medical facility after officials say he was beaten by an inmate.
California State Prison, Sacramento, officials say 26-year-old Montoya Nichols approached the correctional officer Friday and began punching him in the face and head. The injured officer's name hasn't been released.
Other guards used physical force to stop the attack. Nichols was slightly injured and transferred to another prison.
He began serving a seven-year sentence from San Luis Obispo County earlier this year for assault, battery and resisting or deterring a peace officer with the threat of violence.
The maximum-security prison houses nearly 2,300 men in Folsom, east of Sacramento.
