Winters Fire Burns 1,932 Acres, Mandatory Evacuations Lifted

UPDATE July 7, 4:45 p.m.:  Residents near the Winters Fire in Yolo County are headed back to their homes Friday afternoon as mandatory evacuations are now lifted.

Fire crews are still battling the brush fire, which started yesterday afternoon.

Jonathan Cox is a CAL FIRE spokesman and says conditions Friday afternoon and evening are troublesome.

"What they're contending with right now is some extremely high temperatures, above 106 degrees, up in some very steep terrain and the concern is, the late afternoon winds that are typical for this area, for any of the areas that are uncontained," says Cox. 

The fire is currently at more than 1,900 acres with 31 percent containment.


UPDATE, July 7, 3:14 p.m.: The Winters Fire in Yolo County is now 1,932 acres and is 31 percent contained.

Mandatory evacuations have been lifted for Las Positas and Golden Bear estates.


A wildfire in Yolo County continues to burn Friday morning.

The blaze, which led to mandatory evacuations Thursday, is located about three miles southwest of Winters.

Officials estimate that it has burned 1,800 acres and it's 25 percent contained. 

Mandatory evacuations remain in place for Golden Bear Estates but have been lifted for Las Positas Estates.
