Volkswagen wants to launch an electric car-sharing program, and has chosen Sacramento as the first host city.
The company says its $44 million Green City Initiative just needs approval from the California Air Resources Board.
It's part of the company's settlement for its emissions cheating scandal.
Sacramento has already started work on a car sharing service that serves low-income communities, and Volkswagen says it hopes to build on that program.
The company says Sacramento was chosen over Los Angeles because of commute patterns, market readiness, and Sacramento's compact size.
