First year history teacher Katie Silaj wants to be consistent and reliable for her students. She wants her classroom to be a sanctuary. “My students face a number of challenges” and they don’t realize other young people aren't facing the same challenges. Silaj hopes to relate to her students through compassion, understanding and honesty.
