Investigators in the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office continue an investigation into an allegation of misconduct by a Sacramento Fire Department firefighter while he was on duty.
The firefighter, Jared Evans, a two-year employee, was charged on Friday with "Misdemeanor Sexual Battery." The charges stem from a citizen complaint received in April.
In a statement, Sacramento Fire Chief Walt White says the D.A.’s Office brought the charges after a month-long investigation that included the Sacramento Police Department and the Office of Public Safety Accountability.
The firefighter has been on paid administrative leave since April 21. After receiving notification that a warrant was made for his arrest, the firefighter turned himself Monday morning, is cooperating with investigators, and has been booked and released.
