A speciality store in Rancho Cordova plans to expand, even as more national retailers shut their doors. Back to the '80s Store and More has been open for about a year. The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says right now it's a small store at about 880 square feet, but that could be changing.
"The store's owner says that the demand is so strong right now that he's looking to expand to a 4,000 square foot space in Rancho Cordova," says Sorich. "He hasn't finalized a location yet. But he's planning an expanded concept for the business that would include both retail and an '80s nightclub."
The store sells toys, games, fashions and other accessories from the '80s. Analysts say nostalgia has been a bright spot for many brick-and-mortar clothing retailers.
A well-known restaurant in downtown Sacramento is making some big changes. Sorich says Blackbird Kitchen and Beer Gallery is now called Bar Rouse.
"It's adding more seating as well as a new menu," says Sorich. "The other changes, such as the expanded hours, are a response to the growing crowds that we're seeing downtown as a result of Golden 1 Center."
The expanded seating will be outside. The owners have submitted plans to create a sidewalk patio. The restaurant, near 9th and J, opened in 2012 and has had a few reboots in the past.
A Florida-based craft beer chain is getting ready to enter the Sacramento area market. Sorich says The Brass Tap is billed as an upscale beer and wine bar with food.
"It's opening its first Sacramento area location on Monday," says Sorich. "That site is in the Rocklin Commons shopping center. You can expect almost 50 craft beers on tap, including many local varieties."
The Rocklin site is 26-hundred square feet. The Brass Tap's first California site opened in Vacaville about two years ago. Meanwhile another beer business - Sac Yard Tap House and Biergarten - is replacing a former auto shop in East Sacramento. It's expected to open in September.
