A fire at a South Sacramento middle school has destroyed three classrooms Thursday morning.
James Rutter Middle School is located on Palmer House Drive, below Florin Road near Power Inn Road.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's department reports that the fire started around 2:00 a.m. It was alerted when a burglar alarm went off, and then an Elk Grove Unified School District official who went to check on it noticed smoke and called the fire department.
It took about an hour for firefighters from Sacramento Metro Fire, the Sacramento Fire Department and the Cosumnes Fire Department to extinguish it.
The school told CBS13 that the core area of the school suffered extensive damage, and the school will be closed for repairs.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
