California Governor Jerry Brown is slamming President Donald Trump's efforts to dismantle the Clean Power Plan.

Trump issued an order Tuesday to end the rules requiring electricity companies reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Brown, in a joint statement with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, called the president's actions "profoundly misguided" and says the move ignores basic science.

Both states are working to reduce emissions well beyond federal standards.

The two governors say their states will work together to help "fill the void" left by the federal government.

Trump says his order is "putting an end to the war on coal".
