Organizers of the March Madness college basketball games in downtown Sacramento describe the past weekend as a big success.
Hotels throughout the downtown area were sold out and businesses say foot traffic was say up.
Mike Sophia is the Director of the Sacramento Sports Commission.
He says hosting the NCAA Division One Men's Basketball Tournament shows Sacramento can step up for big national events like this.
"All of the city agencies worked together to make it smooth," Sophia says, "whether it's the arena and the Kings' staff, the Sports Commission, Sac State, but it goes beyond that. It goes to city police department, city parking, regional transit -- all worked together to make it a great experience for everybody that was here."
Several of the downtown restaurants and shops that cater to the state Capitol crowd during the week however, were closed Sunday.
Sophia says he thinks this could be a missed opportunity.
There is currently an expansion of hotel rooms and retail options for visitors around the Golden 1 Center.
Sophia says Sacramento is transitioning to a seven-day-a-week city in the downtown core.
