Crews Assess Gas Leak Near Riley Street In Folsom

UPDATE 2:35 p.m.: Folsom Lake High School was on shelter in place status due to a gas leak in the area, Monday afternoon.
Pacific Gas and Electric says a maintenance employee in its gas division has been hospitalized.

Brandi Ehlers with PG&E says the man’s co-workers discovered him and called for help.

“Our employees followed our standard emergency procedures and notified first responders and they arrived to administer first aid to the employee,” she said.

Ehlers also said she did not know the man's condition.

The school district was notified about 12:15 p.m. of the threat of a gas leak.

The district's Daniel Thigpen says the school agreed to keep kids in class while PG&E and emergency responders assessed the situation.

"They didn't want traffic or movement in that area. They also shut down part of the street. Riley Street is closed," said Thigpen.

School was let out at the regular time of 1:45 p.m.

Students were released to the old district parking lot, which is at the rear of the high school and across the street from Sutter Middle School. The middle school was not effected by the gas leak.

Folsom Lake High is a continuation school with an enrollment of 50 students.
