Whole Foods is closing its store in Davis. The store opened in 2012 at the site previously occupied by a Borders book store.

Whole Foods faced a number of challengers in the grocery business in Davis. There are two Safeway stores, two Nugget Markets, a SaveMart, Trader Joe's, Grocery Outlet, the well-established Davis Food Co-op and a Target store that has a grocery department.

Whole Foods has three stores in the Sacramento region, one in Sacramento, one in Folsom and another in Roseville. In September, the chain backed out of a plan to open a store in midtown Sacramento.
