Rain has returned to the Sacramento region.
National Weather Service forecasters say unsettled weather will occur throughout Thursday and Friday and possibly into early Saturday.
Travel delays and accidents are being anticipated on Sacramento Valley roadways and snow is expected to cause hazardous mountain travel conditions. Motorists are being advised to be aware of chain control and traffic accident alerts. Wind gusts in the Valley will be 30 to 40 miles per hour and at least 50 miles per hour in the mountains.
The winter storm system will impact the Sierra Nevada through Friday with 1 to 2 feet of snow at 6,000 feet. A winter storm warning will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday.
In Southern California, there's a chance of rain from Sunday night into late Monday.
Forecasters expect a brief break Saturday afternoon into Sunday evening. But the wet pattern will continue Sunday night into the next week when additional storms are expected.
