It looks like more companies may be hiring in the Sacramento area during the first few months of the new year.
A survey of the region's top employers finds that 63 percent plan to hire in the first-quarter. That's up five percent from a year ago. Rick Reed conducted the poll for Pacific Staffing.
"Sacramento regional companies just across the spectrum, everything from bottling plants to home service providers to manufacturers to even companies that ship products locally, are looking for route and delivery drivers," says Reed.
Companies are also filling positions in: tech support; call centers; warehouse and shipping; sales; and construction.
But Reed says hiring plans could be affected by changes in Washington.
"Some of the anecdotal comments say that they're a little scared of the political change that's going to require new time and investment in changes that may take money away from other opportunities to hire or expand, buy operating equipment," says Reed.
Nearly half of the hiring between now and March will be motivated to expand workforces, rather than to replace employees who are retiring or leaving for other reasons.
Reed says 37 percent of companies reported no plan to hire anyone in the first three months of 2017.
